Interviewing_Obed Abbo

Meet Obed Abbo. Dutchman attracted by Bali's waves and its creative freedom. He has a dream. A dream to change the world. A dream that everybody on this planet will step into their freedom. A dream that everybody will discover his or her own voice.

"Fuck it. I am who I am. And I stop wasting my talents because of society, distractions, fears or limiting beliefs. I step into my freedom. And my dream is that together we can uplift the awareness of humanity, and together we can solve the challenges we face today."

I had the pleasure to ask him a few questions centered around passions and their meaning in our lives. Also as he is an expert on this topic following his dream of becoming a workshop facilitator I interviewed him about obstacles and ways to discover or rediscover your passions in life.

From living between Bali and Germany I've noticed that there are two kinds of lifestyles lived on this planet. There are people that recklessly centre their lives around their passions rather than on money and there are people that focus on money only paying attention to their passions on the side. What are your thoughts on those two lifestyles and which one do you choose?

"I guess I'm living both lifestyles at the moment. I invest energy in a project 100% focused on my passions. And I invest energy in projects that sustain my daily costs. I would LOVE to do the first lifestyle FULL TIME and make my money with this. However, this needs time and space to grow. Step by step."

"The things you are passionate about are not random. They are your calling."- Fabienne Fredrickson. Thoughts on that one?

"'Your calling' implies somebody or something is calling you to do something. For me this is connected to purpose. And purpose means to me to having a reason to get up in the morning. I don't know whether we live in a world that is coincidentally created or that there is a reason we are alive. However, I choose to live my life as if I have a purpose, because this brings joy, inner peace and happiness into my life. Pablo Picasso had a beautiful saying:

'The meaning of life is to find your gift and the purpose of life is to give it away.'"

I think everybody is the happiest when doing something that makes their hearts sing. In passionate moments we are in our own little world and truly connected to who we are really are. Following our passions makes us feel strong and real. If passions give us such an awesome feeling why do we tend to forget or even ignore them?

"In my experience, I sometimes stop myself because I feel scared, I distract myself or when I have limited beliefs. With limited beliefs I mean telling myself stories such as: 'I'm not good enough', 'I'll never learn this', 'I should have a normal job so my father can be proud', etc." What really helps me is to bring awareness in these obstacles and see this as a chance to grow.

How do you find out what your passions are and how do you tune in with them again if you get lost? What kind of tools can you recommend to get passionate and stay passionate?

"By asking yourself what activities you enjoy doing. Go back in time and think about the moment you felt most happy. And then the key is just go and do it. I remember myself often John Maxwell words:

'Courage isn't an absence of fear. It's doing what you are afraid to do. It's having the power to let go of the familiar and forge ahead into new territory.'

I've noticed that modeling is also very powerful. Meaning: finding people who are doing or having what you want. and then find out what they are doing and how they are doing it. Another tool is asking for help. And last but not least, meditation & yoga also helps me a lot as this quiets the mind and makes me feel more connected with who I really am."

Is it possible to live the life of your dreams? By living I mean surviving. Earning money by only doing what you love. Do you think that's a state in life you can achieve?

"YES!"
